Dear WHMS 8th Grade Parents and Guardians,

As your student prepares to transition from middle school to high school, we want to strongly encourage all 8th grade students and their parents/guardians to make every possible effort to attend our upcoming 8th Grade Night on Monday, February 2nd at 5:30pm in the WHMS Cafeteria.

This evening is one of the most important transition events of the year for our 8th grade families. During this time, families will receive essential information directly from the West Harrison High School counselors and principal regarding preparation for 9th grade, including the upcoming process for how students will complete their 9th grade course selections and expectations for high school success.

Additionally, this event will include important guidance related to your student’s Individual Success Plan (“ISP”). As part of this process, students must select and declare one of the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) Diploma Endorsement options prior to leaving 8th grade. This is a required step for all public school students in the state of Mississippi and plays an important role in helping students plan for their future college and career goals.

The following will be discussed at 8th Grade Night:

WHHS Counselors & Mr. Waltman (WHHS Principal) will address families regarding preparation for 9th grade and will provide an overview of important information, including 9th-grade course selections.

Mrs. Maddox (HCTC Counselor) will introduce the Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs available to high school students through the Harrison County Career & Technical Center (HCTC).

Mrs. Borho (WHMS Counselor) will discuss students’ Individual Success Plans (ISPs) and review MDE Diploma Endorsement options.

We understand schedules can be busy, but this is truly an information-packed evening that directly impacts your student’s high school planning. Your partnership and involvement make a tremendous difference in student success, and we greatly appreciate the time and effort taken to attend this important event.

Our goal is to ensure that every student and family feels informed, prepared, and confident moving into this exciting next chapter. Thank you for your continued support of your student and our Hurricane Family!

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact West Harrison Middle School.

Sincerely,

 K. Michelle Borho, Ed.S.
